The entry of motor vehicles into the territory of the Krkonoše National Park (KRNAP) is restricted by law. Nevertheless, in recent years traffic in the park has reached critical levels. Only the following persons and vehicles are legally permitted to enter the territory of KRNAP:
All others may enter only upon being granted an exemption by the KRNAP Administration. Likewise, entry into Quiet areas of KRNAP, apart from the entities explicitly listed in the law , is possible only on the basis of a legal exemption. If you do not fall into one of the groups listed below, or do not have statutory entry rights, entry into the territory of KRNAP is not legally permitted.
Where are the Quiet Areas?
Quiet areas of the national park are areas with restricted movement of persons in order to allow the undisturbed development of ecosystems or their components, which are sensitive to excessive human presence and vulnerable to disturbance impacts associated with it.
There are a total of eight Quiet areas in the Krkonoše National Park. The two largest Quiet areas are located in the ridge sections of the Krkonoše Mountains, and one is situated on the summit of Světlá hora and Černá hora. Other Quiet areas include Tetřeví Boudy and Lesní bouda, Pomezní hřeben, Přední Rennerovky, Slatinná stráň and Lesní hřeben. An overview of the adopted measures can be found in the Visitor Regulations .
Which roads are designated?
Throughout the entire territory of KRNAP, with the exception of built-up areas of municipalities or areas designated for development, it is prohibited to enter and remain with motor vehicles and caravans outside roads, local roads and places designated for vehicle entry and remaining by the KRNAP Administration. Designated places and conditions for the entry and remaining of motor vehicles within the territory of the Krkonoše National Park are governed by Measure of a General Nature No. 1/2025 (PDF, 13 MB) .
What does “remaining” mean?
Remaining with vehicles within the territory of the national park is permitted only in places designated for this purpose – i.e. places designated by a decision of, for example, a building authority, or by an exemption from the prohibition issued by the KRNAP Administration. Information for property owners within KRNAP who wish to designate a place for vehicle parking can be found here: Vehicle parking within the territory of KRNAP (DOC, 53 kB) .
What are the designated places for remaining (parking)?
If a visitor wishes to remain with a vehicle within the territory of KRNAP during their stay, they should check in advance whether the accommodation facility where they will be staying has areas designated for vehicle remaining. This information is available on the KRNAP Administration map server here: KRNAP Public Map Portal (layer Transport – parking areas (preview)).
For how long is registration granted?
If the accommodation facility does not have a designated place for remaining, or if such places are fully occupied, entry into the territory of KRNAP is permitted, after fulfilling all other conditions, only for a period of two hours (for loading or unloading luggage, cargo, etc.), after which the national park territory must be left. Remaining (parking) in a designated place is permitted for a maximum of 14 days.
More information is available in Measure of a General Nature No. 1/2025 (PDF, 13 MB) :
In an effort to effectively monitor compliance with the rules, the KRNAP Administration introduced a telematic monitoring system for park entry and for the protection of the most valuable areas.
The system operates on the principle of cameras that record vehicle license plates. Cameras are installed at heavily used entry points to the national park. If a vehicle appears in the camera’s field of view, its license plate number is recorded. The data are subsequently analysed, and unauthorised entries are gradually sanctioned. This measure is not aimed at visitors or local residents who comply with the rules, but at effective enforcement and reducing pressure on nature and on those who come to enjoy it.
Vehicles that are entitled to enter KRNAP may voluntarily register in this system (via the KRNAP Administration Information Centre or through the accommodation provider, if registered in the KRNAP Administration system). Vehicles registered in this way are automatically recognised by the system as legal entries. If an “unknown” vehicle is recorded, the KRNAP Administration may request the vehicle operator to provide proof of the legality of the entry.
